Longing for the good ole’ days?
Some people here on Bainbridge seemed to be longing for the old days of the Washington Mosquito fleet. I don’t think I am ready to personally defend our ferry terminal from offending ferry companies: Vashon vigilantes repel the ferry Illahee on May 15, 1948..
I have to say the web site “HistoryLink.org: The Online Encyclopedia of Washington State History” is a cool source of Washington State history. The article “Puget Sound’s Mosquito Fleet” states that the Mosquito Fleet at one point included 2500 vessels. Wow! I’ll bet you couldn’t throw a rock in the Sound without hitting a boat. Back in the day, Colman Dock had an impressive clock tower on the end of the pier: Colman Clock (Seattle).
